Love it! And hilarious, which suits you, doncha know. ;)

Ah, my lovely, we must chat soon. Maybe tamale or Moonday... I yam making scones tamale, for my CA client/friend who never lets me down. YAY for Nancy.

I will call sometime before it's 6 pm your time, if I can call at all. We'll see how it goes... Got Dad with me and so that takes a lot of my day, but he's so sweet -- and he does often nap, and sleeps in quite late... So we shall see. If not tamale, then SOON.

Thanks Jaan. You're making tamales AND scones right? Not tamale scones.? Never heard of such but there's much I don't know. Maybe if I get lots of money I'll get lots smarter. Both are very ambitious in my book. I did bake ginger cookies for Jasmine in Seattle, but due to one thing after another, never mailed them. But two weeks ago taped them shut in a box with postage tape. Won't go into why. But today, worrying that they were either moldy or stale, I opened the box. They're not either. I cut up and added crystallized ginger to the batter - they're so good. Hope there's some left to mail, although if there's not - well, I do feel guilty sending her something with sugar in it. Sugar was banned from our house when they were growing up.. Love to speak to you if you call. We're having 16 degrees days until Tuesday so chances of me going out are about as low as the temperature. Went to see Boys in the Boat. From the book you inspired me to read that in a million years, I'd never have read it on my own - totally not the kind of book I read and loved it! Really liked the movie too. I guess Clooney liked the book too.

"Tamale" is often code for "the next day." ;)

Those cookies sound scary, girlfriend! Donut send ME any of that. ah ha hahahahaha woof!

I'll try to give you a shout SOON. I have to DRAG this slow-moving vehicle (SMV) outta bed... he's 92. Can sleep 12-13 hours a night! Amazing. Anyway, he's great and I'm relishing having him here. Just really hard NOT having Mom, and now we can't even VISIT her.

But shit is gonna change.

Okay, enough. LOVE YOU, and looking forward to a good ol' yak.

Thanks. I know I'm a bit sketchy on their history. It's been a very long time since I was 15. But so many have never even heard of Sparta... And I admit I know even less about the Ottoman Empire. I read a lot but neither has been on my reading list. Now I'll have to read about the Ottoman Empire. Except the Spartan civilization was purchased at the expense of the majority that lived there - just like here. Besides, Trapped in the Ottoman Empire just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Sparta had a higher civilization than the United States. Even Plato admired Sparta. The new Ottoman may fit better.

Plato admired Sparta because he invented it. It's like Plato also admired Socrates. He invented him too.

Of course there was a Sparta (a very small village in Laconia) and there was also probably a Socrates character (he reminds me of a character in the first part of the Iliad).

But of course Plato (or maybe more accurately his school) also invented the Helots. And so what Dubby says above is true enough. Spartans also stole from Helots. The only requirement was not to get caught. Gates has been caught a 1,000 times. It seems being a 1993 Global Leader of Tomorrow (the earlier version of Young Global Leaders) means that you don't have to abide by the 'getting caught' commandment.

But then maybe Gates is one of those two thousand sacrificial Helots.

No, he would have shown up with his lawyer and made the Spartans sign a contract favoring his interests over all others before he'd be willing to commiit to agreeing to his ambition.

To which, the legend states, they would have thrown him down the pit.

That's what we're missing in modern societies. We need a pit!!!

Maybe. We certainly need a system that does not reward such maliciousness.

Not at the end of the cycle anyway. Chaos and corruption, the end (supposedly) of Kali Yuga and the Lakota prophecy predicting the end of the fourth world and the ultimate beginning of the fifth, hopefully more evolved humans. Bill Gates isn't worried about getting caught. If he's - finally - backed into a corner, all he has to do is jump in his space ship and return to his home planet.
